Dante Dante Dante!! I'm not surprised he showed up but I'm always pleased when he does. Just last week a dear friend asked to sit down with me for tea and to discuss threes and thirds in the Commedia. Two hours later, we'd gotten to a lovely place with the third that emerges from the held creative tension of simultaneous megachiasms (Geryon; Lombardo; Cacciaguida)//minichiasms and terza rima -- the general movement mechanisms of the text on various levels. I sent them off with a copy of the tre giri article and a little recitation of that part of C.XXXIII. Once I heard 'iridescent' come through in this Ode, I was excited hoping the iri might follow--- And lo! All three of the -iri base fragments, organized /almost/ chiastically -- with the terzo both anchoring and setting off the bunch! Don't we just love the fertile soil of Dante ~~ the amazing play of fruits and flowers that yet come from his vision labors.
Oh how I love this one! Dante dante dante!
